In a recent post on Facebook ACECQA asked the question “How does your documentation demonstrate a cycle of planning?”
In the post ACECQA identified that Element 1.2.1 of the National Quality Standard (NQS) has consistently ranked in the top five elements that have not been met since the national quality rating and assessment process began in 2012. This element states that “Each child’s learning and development is assessed as part of an ongoing cycle of planning, documenting and evaluation”
The question is how can early childhood education providers efficiently and inexpensively develop an approach to documenting their centre’s curriculum planning process and content so that you can point to an educational program that is displayed and accessible to staff and families (element 1.1.4 of NQS).
ACECQA have identified that developing an effective curriculum for children requires an on-going cycle of observing, planning, documenting and reviewing the curriculum. In addition, the documentation and assessment of children’s learning needs to be used to continually develop and enhance curriculum plans. The NQS requires that educators show “evidence of the planning cycle through practice, discussion and documentation”. ACECQA have outlined a Planning Cycle that provides a useful structure through which educators and leaders can create their own curriculum.
Cloudbridge have incorporated this curriculum planning cycle into our Office 365 based Document Management Solution. Our solution can therefore assist with the documentation of both your centre’s curriculum encompassing the complete planning cycle and with the documentation of each child’s learning and development. This solution will assist you to demonstrate a history in developing your centre’s early childhood education curriculum and therefore assist in the NQS accreditation process.
